ANALYSIS
The Lions probably will use a low draft pick or sign a young free agent to replace Mirer, who was the No. 3 quarterback a season ago. Mirer could latch on with another team. Whether that happens remains to be seen.

A quality backup is not a luxury but a neccessity in the NFL. The Lions have one in fan-favorite Mike McMahon and added another in Mirer, who was acquired as a free agent and is a nice insurance policy at an affordable price.

Mirer returns as a backup for the Raiders. He'll be the third string QB once again and is not expected to see any significant playing time.
