Morgan was placed on the NFL's reserve/retired list by the Saints on Thursday, the New Orleans Times-Picayune reports.
ANALYSIS
Don't expect another comeback attempt for the 30-year-old linebacker. Constant injury struggles ultimately proved too difficult for the former Pro Bowler.

If Morgan could just stay healthy, he'd end up among the league leaders in tackles given his nose for the ball. Concussion derailed his 2006 season after just one game and his playing career could be over if he suffers another one this season, which prompted the Panthers to nab Jon Beason with their first-round pick in April's Draft.
When he plays, Morgan is a solid middle linebacker. But the problem is Morgan has a history of injuries. He hasn't played a full season in his six years in the league. Last year, he was selected to the Pro Bowl despite missing three games. Although he is injury prone, Morgan remains a decent No. 2 linebacker for owners.
Playing in 12 games in 2004 was actually a step forward for Morgan, whose high in the three previous seasons was 11. Still, he managed to rank in the top 25 among linebackers last year despite missing four games and missing parts of others with injuries. By posting a 7.83 fantasy points per game average, over 16 games he would have placed third behind only Donnie Edwards and Keith Bulluck on the year. That’s heady company, and it’s the company Morgan keeps when he plays. In games when he wasn’t injured, he always netted at least five solo tackles in 2004, and the numbers were more more often than not in the eight or nine range. He brings brilliant speed and undeniable physical skills but also what seems to be the guarantee of missing time. He tends to have hamstring problems and has a terrible history with concussions two years running now. We’re not in Troy Aikman territory here, but be aware that he’s as risky as they come on this list. Take the plunge that he’ll get to 12 games again and fill in for those other games. It may be more productive in the long run than drafting a safer but less dynamic option, and you may just luck into that first 16-game season that vaults him into the top-5.
Morgan just needs to stay healthy to be a top-10 fantasy linebacker.
We know what Morgan does on the field: tackle. The only question is how often the talented middle linebacker will be on the field. In two years, he has played only 19 games, missing half of 2002 to a hernia and a dislocated left shoulder. He should be healthy for the start of training camp.
