Martin was released Tuesday, according to BuffaloBills.com.
ANALYSIS
The Bills liked having Martin for depth and experience, but right now the current need is to have depth at cornerback with two key players on the shelf, so they had to let him go. Martin had just seven catches last year and none so far in 2011.

Martin likely won't see playing time ahead of Scott Chandler or Shawn Nelson, so unless injuries strike, there's very little to see here.
Martin was productive as Miami’s second tight end last year, averaging 14.2 yards per catch and producing 440 yards and three scores. Anthony Fasano’s presence limits his upside, however, and at press time, Martin was recovering from surgery for a sports hernia. He is expected to be healthy for the start of training camp, though.
After flashing nice potential as a pass-catcher in his years with Green Bay, Martin was a bit of a disappointment last season with the Dolphins, his first as a starting tight end in the NFL. He remains the starter and should nab a few more touchdowns than the two he recorded last year, though he also could be pushed for playing time by Anthony Fasano.
Dolphins coach Cam Cameron comes from San Diego where he ran an offense that utilized the tight end (Antonio Gates) as effectively as any other team in the league. Is Martin ready to make that kind of leap? Probably not, but he should be targeted more than 36 times now that he’s not a backup.
Keep an eye on how Bubba Franks responds from last season’s neck and back injuries that limited him to his lowest totals in six NFL seasons. Martin and Donald Lee stepped in last season and can do so again in 2006.
Martin shows flashes of potential but is always too inconsitent. He'll get a chance to show what he can do as a starter if Bubba Franks continues his hold out into the season. If that happens then Martin could be a solid sleeper at TE.
