Hutchinson, who was signed by Chicago in Week 4 last season after Rex Grossman was lost for the year, did not exactly dazzle in the five games he started in 2004. He tossed just four touchdown passes and never threw for more than 213 yards in a game, leading the Bears to a 1-4 record. Though Hutchinson enters 2005 as Chicago's backup quarterback and the most experienced QB on the roster, he will only have fantasy value if Grossman goes down, and even then his value would be minimal.
Will back up Jonathan Quinn.
Hutchinson took over as the starter in Week Eight, but while his skill set is very different from Quincy Carter's, their final numbers were nearly identical -- Hutchinson passes for more yards, but at a lower percentage, and displayed a propensity for fumbling to boot. Hutchinson is the projcted starter heading into 2003, but incoming coach Bill Parcells is likely to start both him and Carter from ground zero, and bringing in a veteran is always a possibility as well.

Despite Hutchinson's poor effort in Saturday's preseason game, offensive coordinator Ron Turner saw some positives in the quarterback's performance, the Arlington Heights Daily Herald reports. "I think everyone is focusing on the negatives, and obviously there were some," Turner said. "He’s got some things he has to work on, but overall I thought he saw the field pretty well. He made one mistake on a read, and other than that I thought he saw the field well. He’s got to work on his fundamentals a little bit like, probably, a lot of people do. But I think Chad’s going to be fine."
