Knee - ACL
January 19, 2009
Carter missed the entire 2008 season after tearing his ACL during a preseason game in August.
ANALYSIS
The Raiders had hoped that Carter would provide a vertical threat for JaMarcus Russell but the two barely got the opportunity to sync up. Carter is hoping to return to Oakland next season and is a player to keep your eye on if he's able to avoid another serious injury.

Carter will begin the season as the Raiders' third receiver, but he could push Ronald Curry in training camp for the starter's role opposite Javon Walker. Carter hasn't yet shown that he can be a consistent fantasy player, but he has the potential to score a few touchdowns due to his size and speed combination. If Carter beats out Curry or Walker goes down with an injury, Carter could become a potential sleeper.
Carter is a downfield threat with an opportunity to compete for a starting job opposite Steve Smith following the surprise release of Keyshawn Johnson this spring. He projects as more of a No. 3 type, but if rookie Dwayne Jarrett isn't ready to start in Week 1 and Keary Colbert continues to disappoint, Carter could emerge as a nice endgame sleeper at receiver.
Carter came on at the end of the 2005 season and is competing with Keary Colbert for the No. 3 receiver. He should be considered a sleeper this season.
Carter has both size and speed and could become a legitimate receiver in the NFL one day. That day might not come this season, however, as he's fifth in the Panthers' receiving depth charts behind Steve Smith, Keary Colbert, Rod Gardner, and Ricky Proehl. Carter will need a few injuries before he sees much playing time this season but keep him in mind for future seasons.
