Marshall was released by the Chargers on Monday, NFL.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Marshall played an expanded snap count Thursday against the Broncos in wake of injuries to the Chargers' secondary. However, he was exposed on numerous occasions by Denver wideout Emmanuel Sanders. Following that subpar performance, Marshall will now hit the free agent market and hope to provide veteran depth elsewhere in the league.

With the signing of pro-bowler Brandon Flowers and the selection of Jason Verrett in the draft, Marshall will likely be relegated to fourth corner on the depth chart, which means he should see substantially less playing time in 2014. Expect a sharp decline from the 71 total tackles he posted in 2013.
Marshall missed 12 games last season with a pair of ruptured discs in his back. Miami could boast one of the better defenses in the league but with Marshall and Brent Grimes (Achilles) coming back from serious injuries, their secondary play could be what hold's them back.
Marshall seems likely to start the season in the slot this season which may surprise some after signing a free agent contract. Marshall could also see some playing time at safety. With Marshall, Vontae Davis, and Sean Smith on board, throwing against the Dolphins won't be easy.
Marshall will provide increasingly more important depth at corner in the wake of Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie's departure.
Coming off a career best 88 tackles and four interceptions, Marshall recently signed a one-year contract with the Panthers. He is an unquestioned starter in the Panthers secondary, which was ranked fourth overall last season. Keep an eye on him this year as he will be playing for a long term contract and could put up some good IDP numbers.
Entering his fourth season, Marshall moves into a full-time starting role opposite Chris Gamble, following the Panthers' decision to release Ken Lucas this winter. He'll likely be a good source of tackles (think 70-80) as opposing quarterbacks will try to stay away from Gamble when possible.
Marshall took advantage of his chances to play during his second season as Chris Gamble and Ken Lucas struggled to stay healthy. As a result, he was the target of opponents' passing attacks en route to an 89-tackle campaign. He'll be the team's third corner to begin the season as long as Gamble and Lucas are healthy, but he's a decent option for tackles in the secondary if he's able to crack the starting lineup at some point again down the road.
An injury to Ken Lucas bumped Marshall into a starting role earlier than the Panthers had planned, but all things considered he faired pretty well in his first season against NFL receivers. Marshall will need to earn his starting spot over Lucas during training camp, with the loser likely filling the nickelback role.
