Boone is expected get some playing time this season, but it will most likely be at defensive end rather than nose tackle.
Boone has played both defensive end and defensive tackle in his career and figures to be part of the DE rotation in Kansas City’s new 3-4 defense. He won’t even approach the stats needed to be considered a usable IDP.
Boone will likely move to left defensive end this season as part of the Chiefs’ post-Jared Allen defensive line shuffle. He doesn’t have the skill set needed to be a pass-rushing force on the outside, so don’t expect much more than a slight uptick to his career high of 2.5 sacks.
Boone joined the Chiefs this offseason to help stuff the run. His bulk takes up space inside, but doesn’t translate into a lot of tackles. He’ll get a couple of sacks, but will largely be ignored as an IDP.
