With Lawrence Tynes traded to the Giants, Medlock, the team’s fifth-round draft pick, is the odds-on favorite to win the Chiefs kicking job. Medlock’s got a big leg, but the Chiefs offense lacks a vertical dimension, and if inexperienced second-year man Brodie Croyle takes the job from veteran Damon Huard, the offense is likely to experience severe short-term growing pains. Medlock is capable of making long-range kicks as he was 25-of-33 from 40-49 yards and 6-of-9 from 50-plus in college. Keep in mind that inclement weather is also a factor later in the season at Arrowhead.
