The Buccaneers have placed Stroughter (foot) on injured reserve, Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune reports.

ANALYSIS
Stroughter has a broken foot and will end his season with one catch for 14 yards. Recently re-signed receiver Jordan Shipley may now have an opportunity for more action going forward. The Bucs also signed receiver Chris Owusu from the Chargers practice squad to replace Stroughter.

Stroughter is coming off a rough 2011 where was only able to play in six games due to injury. He only caught four passes for 52 yards in those six games. He did have a good season returning kick with 20 returns for 540 yards (27 yards a return). Bottom line at this point is Stroughter will struggle to get receiving looks in 2012 and his role would primarily be as a return man, this is all assuming he actually makes the team.

Stroughter is a solid slot receiver who also can be used in the return game if needed. He should reprise his No.3 receiver role in 2011 so expect no more than 30+ catches with a sprinkling of TD's.

Stroughter was a pleasant surprise for the Buccaneers as a rookie 7th-round pick in 2009 as he had 31 catches for 334 yards and a TD along with 11 kickoff returns for 324 yards and a TD in 13 games. Stroughter should improve on his receiving numbers in 2010, especially if he manages to move up from his No.3 WR position to being a starting WR. However, Stroughter really is an ideal fit as a No.3 slot receiver and backup kick returner for the Buccaneers.

Though he was a 7th round pick and is a rookie, Stroughter has a very good chance of not only making the team but being one of the Buccaneers top four WR's in 2009. He could even rise to fantasy relevance were Antonio Bryant or Michael Clayton to go down at some point during the season.
