Eldridge boasted the most experience of the tight ends competing for backup roles behind starter Martellus Bennett, but after sitting out all of last season, the Bears waived him during training camp.
Eldridge will be one of many competing for the third and final tight end spot although his early season suspension my prove to be a quick ticket to the waiver wire.
The blocking specialist did not have a memorable presence in the team's passing game, and that's unlikely to change in 2011.
The rookie will be primarily a blocking tight end for the Colts and likely won't see many targets.
