Dowling was released by the Raiders in early September, and it remains to be seen whether or not he'll make an NFL roster in 2015.
Dowling has had trouble staying healthy since being drafted 33rd overall in 2011. He was released by the Patriots in August.
Dowling, selected 33rd overall by the Patriots in the 2011 NFL Draft, had his rookie season derailed by injuries. He is now healthy and if he stays that way, he'll have a chance to compete for a starting cornerback gig with Kyle Arrington. The Patriots' secondary was pretty bad at times last year, but the return to health of Dowling (among others) figures to boost that unit this coming season.
Dowling, the 33rd selection overall in April's draft, gives the Pats' secondary another talented young athlete to develop, though his IDP heyday may not occur straight out of the gate, as he works his way into the defensive rotation.
