RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2018

2017

The former Seahawk landed in Indianapolis last season as Frank Gore's top backup, and while Turbin didn't see many touches in that role, he surprisingly emerged as a short-yardage threat, scoring seven rushing touchdowns after coming into the year with only one on 281 career rushes. Turbin didn't monopolize the red-zone touches for the Colts, and Gore saw just as many carries inside the 5-yard line (10) as his teammate, but Turbin made the most of his opportunities as he scored on half of his rushes in close, and his longest TD run of the year was just seven yards. That kind of success rate isn't sustainable season to season, but with Gore not getting any younger and fourth-round pick Marlon Mack not suited for grunt work in the trenches, Turbin could once again see enough action as a goal-line back to retain some fantasy value.

2016

Consider this profile a placeholder for whomever is the No. 2 back behind Frank Gore this fall. Gore, after all, is entering his age-33 season, and the Colts figure to have a plus offense if Andrew Luck can stay in one piece this year. The Colts spent a major chunk of their draft resources on the offensive line, good news for Luck and Co. Turbin has been an ordinary back when asked to play through his four-year career, averaging 4.0 yards per carry and securing 77 percent of his targets. Someone has to be Mr. Irrelevant.

2015

A fourth-round pick in 2012, Turbin has backed up Marshawn Lynch the last three years, which hasn't afforded him many opportunities to show what he's capable of. A regular in the two-minute drill, Turbin has good size and speed and soft hands, potentially making him an effective three-down back who can handle both targets and goal-line carries. Now that he has joined the Browns, once he recovers from ankle injury, Turbin will boost the depth of a Cleveland backfield that also rosters Isaiah Crowell and rookie Duke Johnson.

2014

Turbin experienced some harsh regression last year following his solid 2012 as Marshawn Lynch's backup, seeing his YPC drop a full point from 4.4 to 3.4, and his receiving production from 19 catches for 181 yards in 2012 to just eight for 60 yards last year. The 5-10, 222-pound runner has very good speed, but didn’t show very good elusiveness or physicality last season, despite playing in the accomplished Seattle offense. That performance puts him at high risk of having the super-talented Christine Michael pass him for the No. 2 spot in the Seattle backfield, meaning Turbin probably isn't even the man to own in case of a Lynch injury this year.

2013

Despite racking up 500 total yards and a 4.4-YPC average, Turbin will continue to be little more than insurance for workhorse Marshawn Lynch. Moreover, the addition of Christine Michael, Seattle's first pick in this year’s draft, makes Turbin's role a little less secure. At 5-10, 222, and with deceptive speed, and running behind Seattle's stout offensive line, the burly Turbin would be in a good situation should Lynch's smash-mouth running style lead to injury, though it's likely Michael would also be in the mix in that case.

2012

After missing 2010 with a knee injury, Turbin finished his final season at Utah State running for 1,517 yards and totaling 23 touchdowns, and the Seahawks used the No. 106 pick to take him in the draft. He’s a power back who also clocked a 4.50 40 time, making him an intriguing prospect. Marshawn Lynch is firmly entrenched as Seattle’s starter, but Turbin is the favorite to win the backup role right away.
