Expects to be released, rejoin Giants on veteran minimum

Johnson (neck) is expected to be released but could return to the team on a veteran's minimum deal, NJ.com's Dan Duggan reports.
ANALYSIS
Duggan notes that the Giants' signing of Rhett Ellison when free agency opened Thursday signaled that Johnson would likely be released after playing out one year of a two-year, $2.3 million contract. That said, it does appear that a return on a minimum contract could be in the cards for Johnson. The 28-year-old hybrid back had six total touches for 23 yards and a touchdown last season.

As lead blocker, Johnson played an integral part in the success of teammate Le’Veon Bell – so much so that the Steelers re-signed the restricted free agent to a one-year, $1.542 million contract this offseason. He should continue to fill that role in 2015, but has severely limited fantasy value.
Johnson returns as the lead blocker in what should be a powerful Steelers' running game this season. That said, he has just two career carries, seriously limiting his fantasy value.
Johnson catches the occasional pass, but is mostly used as a run blocker. He'll have that same role in 2013.
Undrafted in 2011, Johnson earned a roster spot after an impressive workout at West Virginia’s pro day. Pittsburgh promptly converted him from tight end to fullback.
