Hemingway (back), who was waived/injured last week, was released off injured reserve Tuesday, the Kansas City Star reports.

ANALYSIS
Hemingway seemed like a candidate to be placed on injured/reserve following his release by the team last week, but apparently the Chiefs feel he's a lost cause. As a result, he's now a free agent, and is available to sign with other teams.

Hemingway started 2014 battling A.J. Jenkins for the third spot on the Chiefs’ depth chart, but opportunity knocked when both Jenkins and Donnie Avery suffered injuries early in the season. However, the second-year wideout didn’t take advantage, snagging just 12 passes for 108 yards over the course of the season. Following a disappointing training camp again, he was released by the Chiefs, and will now hope to latch on to another 53-man roster or a practice squad.

The former practice squad member rewarded the Cheifs' patience with him towards the end of 2013, and Hemingway heads into this season battling AJ Jenkins for the no. 3 spot on the depth chart. Hemingway's ceiling might be that of a fungible possession receiver, but given his work ethic he's got a much higher floor than the enigmatic Jenkins.

Hemingway spent 2012 on the Chiefs practice squad and will compete to provide depth at wide receiver.

Hemingway is an excellent blend of size and overall athleticism, but as a seventh-round pick who is a bit raw as a receiver, he'll face an uphill battle to make the 53-man active roster. He will receive stiff competition from veteran special teams ace Terrance Copper and promising undrafted rookie Josh Bellamy. Should he beat them out, he's likely to remain too far down the depth chart to contribute enough as a rookie to warrant use in fantasy.
