Pleads guilty to reduced charge
CBFree Agent
March 26, 2018
Lane pleaded guilty Monday to an revised charge of reckless driving for an arrest in King County, Wash. on the morning of Sunday, Jan. 14, KOMONews.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Initially charged with DUI, Lane's BAC of 0.039 was below the state's legal limit of 0.08, hence the reason for the reduced charge. While he awaits a sentencing hearing on May 4, the cornerback will continue his search for a new home after his release from the Seahawks in early March. Lane produced in an expanded role the last two seasons, compiling 80 tackles (57 solo) in 29 games.

Lane is expected to start at right cornerback this season, but he could be pushed in camp by rookie Shaquill Griffin. In nickel formations, Lane likely will move inside, where he's more suited to play, while Griffin plays corner. Lane played 16 games in a similar role last season. Whoever wins the RCB job should have plenty of opportunities for interceptions and tackles as offenses stay away from Richard Sherman on the other side.
Lane missed all but the final six games last season recovering from a broken wrist and torn ACL in the Super Bowl. He's healthy and likely the favorite for the starting job right cornerback job. The Seahawks, though, might rather him play nickelback where he's been effective. DeShawn Shead and Tharold Simon are also in the mix. At 6-0, 190, Lane is the smallest of the three, but he likely would have started last season had he not been injured. Playing opposite Richard Sherman should mean plenty of passes, and potential interceptions, come his way.
With Brandon Browner and Walter Thurmond gone, Jeremy Lane is the primary cornerback backup this season. He showed promise last year and could step into start for Byron Maxwell if needed.
