RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Datone Jones.
Jones delivered another average season in 2015, recording 20 tackles, three pass deflections, and three sacks in 15 games. He is reportedly shifting to an "elephant linebacker" role in 2016 and is expected to split time with veteran Julius Peppers.
Jones had his moments in 2014, but he has not consistently provided the production off the edge the Packers were hoping for when they selected him in the first round in 2013. Still, he will be part of the Packers' defensive line mix once he completes a one-game suspension.
Jones is coming off a somewhat disappointing rookie season, considering that he was the Packers' first round pick in the 2013 Draft. This stems from the fact that he was only able to record 10 tackles during the 16 games that he played. He did, however, manage to record 3.5 sacks during his rookie campaign. Moving into his sophomore year, Jones stands to improve as he gains familiarity with Dom Capers' defense.
Jones will play end in Green Bay's 3-4 scheme, and it would be surprising if he doesn't start at least 10 games in 2013. Jones is much more athletic and especially more violent with his hands than Green Bay's current group of linemen. Jones' presence will aid Green Bay's ability to collapse the pocket.
