RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2017

Subscribe now to see our 2017 outlook.

2016

Johnson entered the 2015 season with high expectations after a breakthrough towards the end of 2014, but a broken rib in Week 3 would eventually be enough to heavily reduce his role in the Vikings' offense throughout the remainder of the year. With no catches after Week 9, Johnson will have to compete in training camp for a spot in the top three on the team's wide receiver depth chart, where Stefon Diggs, first-rounder Laquon Treadwell and Jarius Wright currently have the upper hand heading into the season. At 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds, Johnson has the physical tools to make it happen, but the former seventh round pick needs to prove himself worthy of fantasy attention again before being considered in standard leagues.

2015

A 2013 seventh-round draft pick, Johnson emerged as his team's top receiver down the stretch last year, posting three games with 70-plus yards and catching two touchdowns over the last seven weeks. If that sounds modest, it's because the Vikings were the 28th-ranked passing offense in total yards while breaking in a rookie quarterback. This year Johnson will have more competition for targets after the team traded for Mike Wallace, but Wallace was erratic in Miami a year ago and could profile more as a field stretcher than a regular workhorse. At 6-2, 215, and running a 4.39 40, Johnson certainly has all the physical specs you'd want in a No. 1 wideout, and with some experience under his belt and Teddy Bridgewater in his second season, could take a significant leap forward. It doesn't hurt that in February, offensive coordinator Norv Turner called Johnson "far and away our best receiver," though, to be fair, that was before the team traded for Wallace.

2014

Johnson was a mid-season addition by the Browns in 2013, but they later discovered that he had a torn ACL, which put him on the sidelines for the rest of his rookie year. Since the injury wasn't discovered until October, Johnson could be a candidate to begin the season on the physically unable to perform list, as ACL injuries typically require a full calendar year of recovery time. Once deemed healthy, Johnson has a chance to compete for a backup receiver role with the Browns -- or another team -- in 2014.

2013

Johnson was signed to the Packers' practice squad in September of 2013. It's by no means clear that Johnson, a seventh rounder, will even see the field this year. At 6-2, 215 and running a 4.39 40, Johnson has the physical tools to operate both in the red zone and down the field.
