Flutie's savvy and experience make him a nice plug and play should the unthinkable -- an injury to Tom Brady -- ever happen. Flutie, a local New England sports legend, who has been around so long that he played when mullets were stylish, may have lost a step, but he is still spry for his age and he brings top shelf intangibles to the table.
Flutie enters 2004 as the third quarterback behind Drew Brees and rookie Philip Rivers. The team knows he can perform if called upon, but his role will most likely be limited to mentoring the younger quarterbacks.
