Attempting comeback
TEFree Agent
May 28, 2017
Fauria is attempting a comeback this season, Alex Marvez of SportingNews.com reports. "I'm trying my best," Fauria said. "Last year didn't go as planned. I didn't get any tryouts, but I have my head on straight now. I'm in good shape. I'm ready to go. I just want one more chance."
ANALYSIS
The 27-year-old tight end who took the league by storm in 2013 for his creative touchdown celebrations will now look to find his way back onto a 53-man roster in 2017. Although he only totaled 18 receptions in 2013, seven of them were for scores, providing Fauria with some short-lived fantasy prominence. The 6-foot-7 target has the size and experience, but his three-year absence from the league may be too much to overcome.

Fauria, a 6-foot-7, target at tight end had a whopping seven of his 18 receptions go for touchdowns in 2013, but injuries, a diminished amount of targets to the Lions tight ends in 2014, and the presence of Eric Ebron all factored into Fauria’s production drop in 2014. The Lions plan on emphasizing tight ends more in the offense this season, but Fauria targets likely won’t increase as much sitting at third on the team’s depth chart.
An undrafted free agent out of UCLA, Fauria surprisingly finished second on the team behind Calvin Johnson in touchdown receptions last season. At 6-7, 255, Fauria proved a weapon in the red zone, garnering 14 red-zone targets (twice that of starter Brandon Pettigrew) and scoring six red-zone touchdowns. Fauria didn't do much otherwise, and likely won't again this year. Aside from Pettigrew, Fauria has to battle Eric Ebron, the 10th overall pick in this year's draft, for playing time. Ebron is expected to see the bulk of the tight-end work, but both tight ends likely will be used in the red zone, often in two-TE sets, according to new offensive coordinator Joe Lombardi. That will still likely leave Fauria short of last season's mark.
Lions' No. 3 tight end.
