Nix was released by the Jaguars on Monday, Ryan O'Halloran of The Florida Times-Union reports.

ANALYSIS
Nix was signed to Jacksonville's practice squad last October but didn't make an appearance for his hometown Jaguars last season. A third-round pick in 2014, the Notre Dame product has been on four teams already and will aim to land with a fifth ahead of training camp.

Nix, a 2014 draft pick who missed his rookie season, was given a good look during preseason but was one of the Texans' final cuts. Rookie Christian Covington beat him out as the backup nose tackle.

Nix, a third-round draft pick in 2014, is looking to be part of the rotation at nose tackle. His primary competition appears to be veteran Jerrell Powe, who played for defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel when the two were in Kansas City. Nix suffered a knee injury during organized team activities and got a late start on training camp.
