RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks

2017

There was no outlook written for Aaron Murray.

2016

Following Chase Daniel's departure, Murray will need to beat out Tyler Bray (opened offseason practice as No. 2 QB) and Kevin Hogan to serve as the backup to Alex Smith. Even if he does win the job, the third-year signal-caller would only see the field in blowout scenarios or should Smith suffer an injury, and the team's run-first approach doesn't lend itself to fantasy stars under center.

2015

Murray enters camp the favorite to win the third-string quarterback spot behind Alex Smith and Chase Daniel, but he'll need to earn it over Tyler Bray. It would take multiple injuries for him to receive meaningful playing time, and there's no guarantee he'll receive a 53-man roster spot.

2014

Drafted in the fifth round of the 2014 NFL Draft, Murray is expected to compete with Chase Daniel and Tyler Bray for backup slotting behind Alex Smith. Murray isn't likely to see much playing time this season, barring an injury to Smith, but he could compete for an expanded role next year if the Chiefs are unable to re-sign Smith beyond the 2014 season.
