RotoWire's Preseason Outlooks
There was no outlook written for Will Compton.
Compton had a career season in 2016, recording 106 tackles, five pass defensed, one forced fumble and an interception in 15 games as a starter. The undrafted 27-year-old signed a restricted free-agent tender to remain in Washington for at least one more season, but it may prove to be his most challenging yet. Washington signed former Bills linebacker Zach Brown during the offseason, leaving two inside linebacker spots for three potential starters. The battle appears likely to come down to Compton and Mason Foster, who led the team in tackles last season. Compton, who was elected captain at the beginning of last season, is a clear leader for Washington's defense, but he'll have to back it up with his play if he wants to maintain his role in 2017.
Despite Compton’s 91 tackles (51 solo) in 2015, he was never able to be relied upon from a fantasy perspective. The fourth-year player had three games of 10-plus tackles, including 12 in the Redskins’ playoff game against Green Bay, but will be battling sixth-year veteran Mason Foster for the starting inside linebacker position alongside Riley Perry. If Compton wins, it is still questionable that he’d be able to be relied upon as an IDP.
Backup linebacker. Recorded 60 tackles in 16 games in 2014.
