Kelly will serve as the second tight end behind Tony Gonzalez in 2011. With a future Hall of Famer ahead of him on the depth chart and plenty of other offensive weapons demanding the ball, Kelly's production will be very limited. He's worth a look if Gonzo goes down.
Trying to come back from a ruptured Achilles' tendon. Kelly is more of a blocker than a receiver, and now has rookie Jermaine Gresham to compete for playing time.
Kelly is essentially a blocker and not a receiving tight end. A ruptured Achilles' tendon in training camp has basically ended his season before it started.
Kelly should still start at tight end ahead of Ben Utecht, although Utecht is the better pass-catcher. Kelly should not be owned in all but the deepest of leagues, as he is never good for much more than 200 yards and rarely gets looked at in the red zone.
Kelly flirted with leaving the Bengals before signing a three-year deal this offseason and is the only tight end returning from last year’s roster. Despite all the passing offense generated by Cincinnati, it uses its tight ends very little. They were 29th in the league with 35 tight-end receptions, and Kelly was a red-zone target just six times.
Kelly will likely start at tight end, but he is a blocking back in an offense that does not often throw to the tight end. As such, don't expect much in the way of fantasy production from him.
Starting tight end, but more of a blocker. Splits the position with Matt Schoebel and Tony Stewart. Schoebel is the best receiving threat of the three.
Kelly is a better blocker than receiver and will probably come out of the game in favor of Matt Schobel on passing downs.
The emergence of Alge Crumpler resulted in Kelly leaving Atlanta for a four-year, $6.8-million contract with Cincinnati. Kelly is known more for his blocking skills than his receiving, but he caught 31 passes in 2000, and has averaged 11.4 yards-per-catch for his career. He was the top tight end chosen in the 1999 draft and has more potential than putative starter Matt Schobel. Tight end has been a weak position for the Bengals, so Kelly could easily win the starting job in training camp.
