ANALYSIS
Pumphrey, a 2017 fourth-round pick of the Eagles, signed with Philadelphia's practice squad in October after spending his entire rookie season on injured reserve with a hamstring injury. He will have another opportunity to make final roster cuts in the leadup to the 2019 campaign.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2018
2017
The all-time rushing leader in FBS history and Eagles' fourth-round pick in 2017 struggled in the preseason and was inactive for Week 1 before tearing his hamstring and spending the rest of the season on injured reserve. Now fully healed, Pumphrey will have an uphill battle with Wendell Smallwood, Matt Jones and Josh Adams for what is likely just one roster spot behind Jay Ajayi, Corey Clement and Darren Sproles. However, Sproles is 35 and returning from a major knee surgery, and if there are any setbacks with his recovery, the similarly diminutive Pumphrey could step in. Otherwise, Pumphrey will have to show marked improvement with his hands and important contributions on special teams this preseason in order to beat out his much bigger rivals who have more obvious opportunity in Philadelphia's current scheme.
Pumphrey broke Ron Dayne's FBS record for career rushing yards, but he fell to the fourth round in this year's draft because he is extremely undersized for an NFL running back at 5-8, 176. Pumphrey possesses outstanding vision, patience and burst, allowing him to excel between the tackles, while his elusiveness makes him hard to bring down once he reaches the second level. He does not have breakaway speed and is not a natural pass catcher, which makes his role uncertain. He will watch and learn behind LeGarrette Blount, Darren Sproles and Wendell Smallwood this season, but Pumphrey should not be dismissed as a potential three-down back. He could surprise if he gets enough snaps to show what he can do because he has the skill set to survive. The only question is if he is big enough to survive.
