The Patriots are trading Izzo to the Texans for a 2022 seventh-round draft pick, Tom Pelissero of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
Izzo was buried on the Patriots' depth chart after they signed Jonnu Smith and Hunter Henry. A seventh-round pick himself, Izzo will now compete for a roster spot in Houston, where veteran TE Darren Fells was released in a corresponding move. Izzo caught 13 passes on 626 offensive snaps for the Patriots last season, struggling to command targets even when he had a three-down role in a pathetic passing offense. A neck injury sent him to IR in December.

How often does Ryan Izzo run a route when on the field for a pass play?
This data will let you see how Ryan Izzo and the other tight ends for the Texans are being used. Some tight ends may have a lot of snaps, but they're not that useful for fantasy purposes because they're not actually running routes. This data will help you see when this is the case.

2018
Izzo, who the Patriots took in the seventh round of the 2018 draft, finished last season with just six catches (on nine targets) for 114 yards and a TD in six games, while working behind Ben Watson and Matt LaCosse. With rookies Devin Asiasi and Dalton Keene now in the fold, the odds seem slim that Izzo makes a big fantasy splash in 2020.
The Patriots selected Izzo in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft, but the tight end spent his first season as a pro on IR. Izzo's best chance of sticking around this season rests in his aptitude as a blocker. To that end, he'll need to compete with Matt LaCosse, Stephen Anderson and UDFA Andrew Beck for depth chart slotting behind Ben Watson and Austin Seferian-Jenkins.
Selected in the seventh round of the 2018 NFL Draft, Izzo's best chance of sticking with the Patriots is establishing himself as a solid blocker. His path to fantasy value, however, is blocked by the presence of starting tight end Rob Gronkowski, as well as that of Dwayne Allen and Jacob Hollister.
