Lucas returns to the Seahawks this season, but unless he reverts to the player he was four or five years ago, he doesn't hold much fantasy value. He'll start at right cornerback opposite Marcus Trufant.
Despite being targeted as the cornerback opposite Chris Gamble, Lucas tallied just two interceptions and now has just five over his last two seasons after recording six during his first season with the Panthers in 2005. Richard Marshall might push him a bit for snaps, but Lucas is a safe bet for 55-60 tackles again as opposing offensive coordinators attempt to avoid Gamble on the other side of the field.
Lucas lost his starting job to rookie Richard Marshall last year and will need to battle in training camp to get it back. Chris Gamble is locked in as a starter, but the loser of the Lucas-Marshall battle will be relegated to nickel-package duties.
In his first season in Carolina, Lucas made his impact felt. He intercepted six passes to go along with 69 tackles. With Chris Gamble playing on the other side, Lucas should continue to put up solid numbers. He's worth a late-round pick in IPD leagues.
Lucas, who had six interceptions last season with Seattle, signed a lucrative deal with the Panthers in the offseason and will be the team's top cornerback this season. Lucas will upgrade a horrendous secondary from last season and could make some big plays if the Panthers' front four apply pressure to their capabilities.
Lucas lost his starting cornerback spot when Bobby Taylor signed in the offseason. He'll see plenty of snaps in nickel and dime situations and will spell Taylor. Lucas is good enough to give Taylor a battle in training camp, so this is one position to keep an eye on. Lucas played in 14 games last season, starting seven, with 62 tackles, one interception and 12 passes defensed.
Lucas starts at right cornerback, but could see his playing time diminish with the arrival of top-draft pick Marcus Trufant. Lucas is safe for the time being as Trufant will play in nickel packages.
