2020 Fantasy Outlook
The subject of ESPN's "Project 11" documentary, Smith still is working his way back from the gruesome leg injury he suffered in November 2018. He nearly had to have his leg amputated and sat out the entire 2019 season, but he was cleared to participate in training camp this year, albeit with some restrictions. While the Week 1 starting job may be out of reach, Smith could be an option to take the field this season if Dwayne Haskins doesn't show big-time improvement. Read Past Outlooks

Retiring from NFL
Smith (calf) announced his retirement Monday, Grant Paulsen of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Smith made it back from his severe leg injury after a year away from football, winning five of six starts in 2020 to help Washington reach the playoffs. He missed the end of the season with a calf injury and was released by the team in early March. News4Jax.com suggests Jaguars coach Urban Meyer was interested in signing Smith earlier this offseason but was dissuaded by his team's medical staff. The veteran quarterback now is opting for retirement a few weeks before he celebrates his 37th birthday.

Smith was traded from Kansas City to Washington during the 2018 offseason and signed to a large contract after producing the best statistical season of his career in 2017. He reverted to game-manager status in Washington, winning six of 10 starts while posting unremarkable statistics prior to a career-threatening leg injury in November. The 35-year-old quarterback is expected to miss all of 2019 and isn't certain to resume his NFL career after that.
