Stovall will jockey for position in a crowded middle of the Lions' wide receiver depth chart. He's been in the system for a bit, but could be on the edge of seeing time with the emergence of Titus Young and the drafting of Ryan Broyles.
Stovall had the best offensive year of his career in 2009 with 24 catches for 366 yards and a touchdown. Stovall has a chance to improve on those numbers in 2010 since he will be competing with rookies Mike Williams and Arrelious Benn for a starting position.
If ever there was an season for Stovall to revive his once-promising WR career it would be 2009, as the Buccaneers are very thin at WR behind starters Antonio Bryant and Michael Clayton. Stovall will make the team as long as he can stay healthy since he is arguably the Buccaneers' best special teams player. If he winds up with a role confined mostly to special teams again Stovall won't have much fantasy value in 2009.
Frankly, we should think of Stovall as a special teams ace first and a receiver second; he's Tampa Bay's lead gunner (first tackler downfield) on special teams, and considered one of the league's best in that role. Bravo, but Stovall won't provide much fantasy help, as he had just 13 targets in 15 games last year and likely won't do much more this season.
Stovall impressed in limited time last season, and he'll be pushing Michael Clayton for a starting role in camp this year. Gained 102 yards in just seven catches in 2006, so he's one to watch.
The third round draft choice from Notre Dame has a good chance of winning a reserve wideout role in camp, but he's no lock. Had trouble with lots of dropped passes early in the Bucs' camp.
