Unger has elected to retire from the NFL, Field Yates of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
Unger's departure leaves a major void in the middle of the Saints' offensive line, as the veteran center played more than 1,000 snaps last season. He finishes a 10-year career having been selected to three Pro Bowls and was donned a First-Team All-Pro back in 2012.

Unger will start at center.
A second-round pick in 2009, Unger has developed into one of the league's best centers. He was named to his second Pro Bowl last season and was an All-Pro in 2012. Unger missed three games last year with injuries.
Unger will move back to right offensive guard this season after taking the starting center gig late last season. A 2009 second-round pick, Unger struggled some as a rookie, but he showed more upside than most of his O-Line comrades. Expect him to take another step in 2010.
Unger could land a starting offensive line job at some point this season. He can play center or guard and likely will be used liberally even if he remains in a backup role.
