Tate has firmly established himself as a second-string cornerback heading into the regular season, the East Valley Tribune reports.

ANALYSIS
He made three solo tackles in Thursday's preseason finale and returned an interception 24 yards for a touchdown. Both of Arizona's starting corners, Antrel Rolle and David Macklin, were hampered by injuries in 2005. If either of them goes down this season, Tate will probably be the first corner off the bench.

Scheduled to serve as a second-string cornerback. He is a deep sleeper, mainly because of starting corner Antrel Rolle's injury history. Rolle only appeared in five games as a rookie, and had a second surgery in the off-season. Tate got into 13 games for Arizona last season and recorded 26 solo tackles, two assists, two picks, and two pass deflections.

Tate is battling rookie Eric Green for the nickel spot. He will most likely win that job.
