Past Fantasy Outlooks
Released by the Ravens in August of 2013.
Carter’s rookie season was ugly, as he got just 3.7 YPC, recorded only five receptions and lost three fumbles. He played for a Colts team that was an NFL-worst 2-14, but Donald Brown, who had previously looked like a bust, badly outplayed him. With Andrew Luck taking over QB duties, and Joseph Addai gone, Carter’s situation is more favorable in 2012, but he’ll need to improve his play significantly to take advantage. Carter underwent thumb surgery this spring, but is expected to be ready for training camp.
The Colts selected Carter in the fourth round of the draft, hoping he can solve the team’s problems in short-yardage. Carter is a powerful back who runs downhill and should provide an element that has been missing from the Colts’ backfield for years. Joseph Addai was re-signed by the Colts, which leaves Carter as only a situational runner. Still, Carter should dominate goal-line work, and playing in the Colts’ offense, that could result in double-digit touchdowns. While he won't be the starter, Carter should be the favorite for carries over perennial disappointment Donald Brown.
