ANALYSIS
Robinson, formerly of the Jaguars, has also drawn interest from the Bears this offseason and even attended their veteran minicamp in May. While he obviously left Chicago without a contract, Robinson is still a serviceable backup who could provide depth to the Cowboys' shallow backfield, which could come in handy if the league office decides to suspend Ezekiel Elliott for the beginning of the season in the aftermath of the NFL's year-long investigation into the runner's legal situation.

The converted quarterback has been productive in small doses over the last three seasons, but he'll likely have a hard time finding consistent work in 2016 after Jacksonville added Chris Ivory via free agency. Ivory and second-year back T.J. Yeldon should combine to shoulder the bulk of the rushing load, though Robinson could work his way into the mix as a third down pass-catcher. While Robinson's upside certainly wasn’t sky-high in 2015, it projects to be considerably lower in 2016, assuming the Jaguars' top two backs stay healthy.
The Jaguars' experiment in converting Robinson from college option quarterback to pro running back began to pay off in 2014 when he made a midseason splash replacing an ineffective Toby Gerhart before a foot injury ended his season. Robinson possesses enviable speed and elusiveness, as well as good patience in waiting for a hole to develop, but he lacks power to run through would-be tacklers once they grab hold, and he isn't much of an asset in the passing game, either as a receiver or a blocker. The Jags signed tackle Jermey Parnell away from Dallas and drafted guard A.J. Cann in the third round to help improve the front five, in addition to bringing back offensive coordinator Greg Olson from exile in Oakland — but those additions are geared more toward helping Blake Bortles develop than improving the running game. More important, Robinson will likely cede the starting job to second-round pick T.J. Yeldon, who is a bigger, more complete back.
After a quiet rookie season split between running back, receiver and kick returner, Robinson reportedly put on 15 pounds of muscle in the offseason in an effort to remake his body into the mold of a more prototypical running back. If he can maintain that through the start of the season, he's going to have a great chance to beat out Jordan Todman for the right to back up Toby Gerhart. An elite scrambling quarterback in college, Robinson has high-end speed and can catch the ball, but he suffered from problems with ball security last year, fumbling three times in just 20 touches. Gerhart's certainly no star rusher, so if Robinson's extra bulk and renewed focus pay off, it's not inconceivable that he could work his way to the top of the depth chart by midseason.
A college quarterback, Robinson is expected to transition to running back for the Jaguars this year. That shouldn't be too difficult, considering he's the most prolific rushing quarterback in FBS history. At 5-10, 199, and with 4.43-speed, Robinson will return kicks and likely will line up at receiver from time to time as the Jaguars plan to give him 10 touches per game. The Jaguars backfield is fairly open behind Maurice Jones-Drew, so Robinson could see his role increase. And with Jones-Drew a 2014 free agent, Robinson makes a sneaky dynasty prospect.
