Wilcox headed to Tampa Bay this offseason after playing often as an off-the-bench safety in Dallas, and with his arrival he's considered a general favorite to start, though he has to hold off the likes of Chris Conte and Justin Evans to do so. Assuming he does, Wilcox would have interesting IDP potential after posting 49 tackles and an interception while playing just 557 defensive snaps last year. The Buccaneers' offense figures to be very good this year, so whoever starts at safety for Tampa should see plenty of tackle opportunities as teams throw to catch up.
Heading into his fourth season, Wilcox has done little to impress so far with the Cowboys and will get bumped out of a starting job with Byron Jones moving to free safety on a full-time basis. Wilcox is still too prone to mistakes to be a reliable defensive player, but he has the talent to shine this season as a special teams ace if he commits to his new role.
Wilcox returns as the starting free safety for the Cowboys after recording 74 tackles and three INTs in 16 games last season
Wilcox won a starting safety job as a rookie in training camp last season, but the death of his mother and a knee injury limited him to just five starts in 2013. He's got the athleticism and nose for the ball to put up useful IDP numbers if he stays on the field for a full schedule, but Wilcox isn't worth taking a flier on right out of the gate.
The Georgia Southern product is a recent convert from running back, but he already looks like a natural at safety. While the Cowboys likes Barry Church and Matt Johnson at safety, the two are question marks due to Achilles' tendon and hamstring issues, respectively, not to mention a complete lack of a track record in both cases. Wilcox is a sleeper IDP investment as a potential Week 1 starter.
