2018 Fantasy Outlook
Johnson's rookie deal with the 49ers expired, so he signed with division-foe Seattle. The 26-year-old started for the Niners in 2017, racking up 77 tackles, seven pass breakups and one pick-six. He'll start the season on injured reserve, and may be eligible for return after six weeks. Read Past Outlooks

Johnson (hip) inked a deal to join Buffalo's 53-man roster Tuesday, Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports.
ANALYSIS
Johnson was recently released from injured reserve Thursday by Seattle and was free to sign with any team. The 2014 fourth-round pick started all 16 games for San Francisco last season and was slated to start at cornerback for Seattle in 2018 before the hip injury hindered his season. It's unclear if the hip injury will allow him to play right away for Buffalo.

Johnson enters the 2017 season as one of the 49ers' starting cornerbacks following the departure of Tramaine Brock and the conversion of Jimmie Ward from corner to safety. The 25-year-old is no ball hawk (one interception through three seasons), but his plus size (6-foot-2, 200 pounds) combined with athleticism to keep up with most receivers should keep him on the field. Johnson has recorded 81 combined tackles over his previous three campaigns despite being used primarily as a third or fourth corner on the depth chart, so there is potential for some IDP relevance if those numbers translate well as a full-time starter.
Johnson spent most of his rookie season on the bench, but he stepped up and started for the 49ers during their final four games, accruing 34 total tackles and a pick over that span. With a big 6-2, 200 pound frame, Johnson has the size to be a starting cornerback in the NFL. With the team losing both of the corners who started the majority of games last season, there is room for shuffling among the depth chart behind Tramaine Brock (who has had his injury concerns as well). Johnson could potentially surpass Shareece Wright and start alongside Brock this season, but he will likely end up being the first corner called upon to start should either go down with injury.
Johnson was drafted by the 49ers for depth at the cornerback position. If he doesn't make the 53-man roster, he will likely be placed on the practice squad.
