Brian Waters: Announces Retirement
GFree Agent
September 2, 2014
Waters announced his retirement from the NFL on Tuesday, the Dallas Morning News reports.
ANALYSIS
Waters entered the league in 1999 as an undrafted rookie out of North Texas before eventually signing with the Cowboys. While the college tight end failed to make the Cowboys' regular-season roster that year, he later resurfaced with the Chiefs before the 2000 season and blossomed into an elite offensive guard. In fact, from 2000-2010, Waters was named to five Pro Bowls and two All-Pro teams as a Chief. The accomplished lineman then earned another Pro Bowl selection with the Patriots in 2011 before finishing his career with the Cowboys last season. The NFL's Walter Payton Man of the Year Award winner in 2009, Waters retires with quite the resume during his 15-year career.

Starting right guard for the Patriots.
Waters has missed just three games over the last nine years and will again be the unquestioned starter at left guard in 2010. However, he battled nagging injuries last season and is entering the twilight of his career at age 33.
Waters is the Chiefs’ best offensive lineman, but an offseason squabble with the new coaching staff and front office have shed some doubt on who will be manning the left guard position for the Chiefs in 2009. He reportedly asked to be traded or released, a request Kansas City denied, and skipped all of the voluntary offseason workouts to voice his displeasure. The Waters situation will be closely monitored throughout training camp, but he doesn’t have a whole lot of leverage and will probably end up playing for the Chiefs this season. Matt Cassel and Larry Johnson certainly hope he will.
Waters, a three-time Pro Bowler, will start at left guard, looking to help improve an offensive line that was horrendous last season.
The three-time Pro Bowler will start at left guard.
The Pro Bowl left guard will be counted on to compensate the loss of Willie Roaf while protecting Trent Green's blindside.
Waters will be the Chiefs' starting left guard this year.
Shields might not get as much publicity as his counterpart, Will Shields, but he's a solid left guard who does much of the dirty work for Priest Holmes and company.
