ANALYSIS
Butler began the season as a reserve safety, but saw an increased workload once rookie Malik Hooker (knee) was lost for the year with a torn ACL. The 31-year-old will become an unrestricted free agent in March and is likely to serve as a reserve secondary option with his new team, assuming he parts ways with Indianapolis.

Butler should reprise his role as the nickelback with a focus on covering the slot receiver. He didn't grade well in pass coverage last season and didn't have an interception, but had four each of the two previous season. He has some bounceback potential as a result, but likely won't get enough snaps for viable fantasy value in most IDP leagues.

Butler struggled in pass coverage last season, but he could emerge as the No. 3 cornerback after the Colts failed to boost the secondary's depth in the offseason.

Butler is expected to serve as the Colts' primary backup at cornerback and play consistently at nickel. He logged a career-high four interceptions in 2012, taking two of them the distance for touchdowns.

The third-year cornerback had just 23 tackles last season and seems destined for reserve duty in the Pats' secondary this season.

In his second year with the Pats, Butler will likely start at left cornerback opposite Leigh Bodden. He should easily surpass his rookie numbers (35 tackles, three picks) given the added responsibility.

Butler is an athletic cornerback with decent size, who will be the latest draft pick made by the team to correct the mistake of letting ball-hawk Asante Samuel go via free agency. With the way the Pats have blown through DBs the past few years (due mostly to injuries), there is an opportunity for upward mobilty -- and thus an expanded role -- for Butler, who was considered a second-round steal this past April.
