Detroit did not exactly need another cornerback after signing Desmond Trufant and taking Jeff Okudah third overall in the draft, but Roberts has served as a hybrid safety/corner in the past, and that's exactly where he could push Justin Coleman for snaps in Detroit. It's also possible that Roberts could serve as nothing more than a rotational piece all season, but at worst he's a solid insurance policy for the team's new-look cornerback room.
