Let go Sunday
CBFree Agent
August 7, 2022
Baker was waived by the Chiefs on Sunday, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Baker's career has been hampered by injuries each of the last two seasons, possibly limiting the potential of the 2019 first-round selection. He'd fallen down the Chiefs' positional depth chart following the selection of three cornerbacks in the 2022 Draft and the addition of Lonnie Johnson.

Past Fantasy Outlooks

2019
Baker was released by the Giants leading up to the 2021 season after he was charged with four counts of robbery with a firearm, but those charges were dropped and he was later signed by the Chiefs. Unfortunately, he managed to log snaps in just a pair of games for Kansas City before suffering a broken femur against the Chargers, ending any chances of him contributing in the postseason. He enters 2021 looking to claim a spot in a secondary that is filled with young talent.
Taken with the 30th overall pick last year, Baker improved as the year went on in coverage and looked set to start opposite free-agent acquisition James Bradberry. But Baker got charged with armed robbery for an incident at a backyard cookout in May, so now all bets are off.
Taken with the 30th pick in the 2019 draft, Baker has a good chance to start right away opposite Janoris Jenkins. Baker isn't especially fast (4.52 40), but he won the Jim Thorpe award as the nation's top defensive back last year. Expect him to be tested heavily right away, something that will be good for his IDP prospects if he's up to the task.

Baker will be expected to work hard and avoid any trouble once he joins the Chiefs, Herbie Teope of the Kansas City Star reports.
ANALYSIS
The Chiefs haven't officially signed Baker yet, but multiple sources have confirmed that he will join the practice squad. Speaking to the media, coach Andy Reid made it clear that the team has made their expectations clear with Baker. Baker played in all 16 games during his rookie season in 2019 with the Giants, but he was cut after being charged with four counts of robbery in May. The charges against him were dropped earlier this month.
