The 32-year-old Tamme will wrap up a nine-year career that included stops in Indianapolis, Denver and Atlanta. He enjoyed his most productive run with the Colts, peaking with 67 receptions for 631 yards and four touchdowns in 2010. He appeared in eight games for the Falcons in 2016 before suffering a season-ending shoulder injury that may have influenced his decision to step away from the game.

Tamme had a three-year high in targets in his first season with the Falcons last year, which helped him post a six-year high in yards. That is good news, but it did not amount to much in terms of fantasy production. Then again, it is to be expected in an offense with a 200-target wide receiver in Julio Jones and a near 100-target running back in Devonta Freeman. Those two combined for 48.6 percent of Atlanta's targets last season. And that is likely to be the case again this season – if it does not get worse. Free-agent wide receiver addition Mohamed Sanu will at least get the 70 targets wide receiver Roddy White, who was released in March, leaves behind, if not more. The 6-3, 230-pound Tamme has never done much damage in the red zone, either. Last year he scored once in that area of the field - his lone touchdown of the season - on five targets. Tamme has good hands, ranking fifth in catch rate last season among tight ends at 72.8 percent, and while he has no doubt lost a step since running a 4.58 40-yard dash at the 2008 Combine, he is still quick enough at 31 years old to get down the seam for quarterback Matt Ryan. But until something changes in the target distribution for the Atlanta offense, Tamme's upside looks rather limited.
