Smoker, a sixth-round draft pick in 2004, and second year back-up Ryan Fitzpatrick had both been on the bubble but the Rams obviously felt Fitzpatrick had more upside. The move left the Rams with four quarterbacks including Fitzpatrick, starter Marc Bulger, Gus Frerotte and Dave Ragone. The team is only expected to keep three QBs and with Bulger and Frerotte shoe-ins for the #1 and #2 positions respectively, the big battle will end up being between Ragone and Fitzpatrick.
