                Announces medical retirement
Travis (lower leg) informed the Jets on Wednesday of his intention to medically retire from the NFL.
				ANALYSIS
Travis, a 2024 fifth-round pick, missed his entire rookie year while rehabbing from a serious left leg injury sustained during his final season at Florida State, and which has now resulted in him being advised to step away from the game of football. In his statement, Travis writes: "I gave everything I had to the rehab process but despite all my efforts, my leg never responded the way we hoped. After much prayer and consultation with the doctors, medical experts and my agent, I've been medically advised to retire from the game I love so deeply."

Travis isn't expected to see the field in 2024 after the Jets drafted him as a developmental quarterback in the fifth round of the 2024 NFL Draft. He led Florida State to an undefeated season in 2023 with a 20:2 TD:INT ratio and seven rushing touchdowns but fractured and dislocated his ankle in November. Travis is expected to be cleared to resume playing before the start of the 2024 season, but veterans Aaron Rodgers and Tyrod Taylor are both firmly ahead of him on the Jets' quarterback depth chart.

    Premature end to career
Travis, who missed his 2024 rookie season due to the leg injury he suffered in his final college season at FSU in 2023, officially retired from the NFL on Wednesday, Rich Cimini of ESPN.com reports.
				ANALYSIS
Travis explained in his retirement statement that his left leg never fully recovered from the Nov. 18, 2023 injury despite a rigorous rehab process, and that after prayer and consultation with his medical team, he's decided to take their advice and retire. The Jets had invested a fifth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft in Travis knowing he could miss his rookie campaign, and the once-promising signal-caller indeed spent the entire season on the non-football injury list.
