Jenkins has announced his retirement from the NFL, the Newark Star-Ledger reports.
ANALYSIS
Jenkins, who sustained an ACL tear in the Jets' 2010 season opener, was a three-time All-Pro selection and will ultimately be remembered as one of the best defensive linemen of the 2000s, particularly in the first half of the decade. His most memorable moment may have been the 2003 season, when he was arguably the best player on a dominant Carolina defensive line that propelled the team to a Super Bowl matchup against the Patriots.

The numbers Jenkins puts up aren't particularly IDP-friendly, but he is key to the Jets' run D as the team's starting nose tackle.
Jenkins will serve as the starting nose tackle in the Jets' 3-4 scheme. His play will be very important to New York's success on defense, but not to any fantasy teams'.
After a tumultuous offseason where his name was linked to a number of different trade rumors, it appears at least for now that Jenkins will be back in the middle of the Carolina defensive line. Injuries have kept him from being a threat to rack up a handful of sacks from the DT spot, so he's no longer a good IDP bet.
Jenkins has played in only five games the last two years because of season-ending injuries. When healthy, Jenkins is an outstanding defensive tackle. But his injury history makes Jenkins a risky pick in IPD leagues.
Jenkins' 2004 season ended abruptly in October after he underwent season-ending shoulder surgery. The Panthers run defense suffered, as a result, and the defense was nowhere near solid in Jenkins' absence. Jenkins ballooned up to 20 pounds over his playing weight in the offseason and will need to work his way back down to his playing weight to help the Panthers' run defense.
Jenkins anchors the interior of the defensive line alongside Brentson Buckner and logged 38 solo tackles, seven sacks and three passes defended in 2002. No reason not to expect a repeat, or slight improvement for the third-year player.
