Mankins has decided to retire, NFL.com's Ian Rapoport reports.
ANALYSIS
Mankins, a first round pick of the Patriots in 2005, ends his decorated career with seven Pro Bowl selections, but surprisingly didn't win a Super Bowl during his nine-year stay in New England. After being traded to the Buccaneers ahead of the 2014 campaign, Mankins anchored a young Tampa Bay offensive line over the past couple seasons, but he'll be best remembered for his elite play while with the Patriots for the bulk of his career.

Brought over in a trade last August with the Patriots, the once-elite guard did not bring the same All-Pro level of play to Tampa. Now 33, Mankins faces questions of whether his best years are behind him. Still, he could prove invaluable as a vocal leader to a young offensive line that will likely start at least two rookies this season.
Mankins, who previously anchored the Patriots' solid offensive line, will now presumably serve in a similar role with Tampa Bay.
Mankins, who is bouncing back from offseason surgery to repair a torn ACL in his left knee, has reportedly looked good of late, but the stud left guard remains a candidate to start the season on the PUP list, as opposed to the team rushing him back. Fellow guard Robert Gallery was signed in the offseason, presumably to give the team some insurance in the the event Mankins isn't ready to start the season.
The three-time Pro Bowl guard missed the first seven games of the 2010 season due to a prolonged holdout, but he's in it for the long haul with New England now, after having signed a six-year extension this summer.
Mankins, who has developed into a Pro Bowl guard for the Patriots, is a vital cog on the team's offensive line, when he is on the field. However as training camp approaches, he is embroiled in a potentially contentious contract dispute with the team.
The 2005 first-rounder has proven to be a worthy pick, developing into a rock-solid starting left guard for the Patriots.
The Patriots took some heat for using a their first-round pick on Mankins in the 2005 NL Draft, but he's developed into arguably the best player on a line that facilitated Tom Brady's 50-TD 2007.
Mankins hasn't missed a start at left guard since the Patriots selected him in the first round of the 2005 draft. At the time, his selection was considered a reach, but he has erased all doubts and is developing into one of the better guards in the league.
The Pats took some heat for using a first round pick on Mankins last year, but he stepped in to the starting left guard spot as a rookie and figures to be a fixture on the team's line for years to come.
Drafted by the Patriots in the first round as the heir apparent to departed left guard Joe Andruzzi.
