Retires from football
Bennett is retiring from the NFL, Louisa Thomas of The New Yorker reports.
ANALYSIS
Bennett has a lofty reputation for his work both on and off the field, piling up 69.5 sacks in 11 NFL seasons while also focusing on social justice advocacy. He recorded 6.5 sacks and 15 QB hits in 15 games with the Cowboys and Patriots last year, so there was some thought he'd continue playing in 2020. Instead, the 34-year-old will call it a career and turn his full attention to other aspects of life.

Bennett joins one of the league's deepest defensive line rotations along with Fletcher Cox, Chris Long, Derek Barnett, Brandon Graham and Timmy Jernigan, in addition to 2018 fourth-round draft pick Josh Sweat. The erstwhile Seahawk and Buc has never failed to reach seven sacks in any of his six 16-game seasons. He notched another 8.5 in 2017 and is a good bet to continue that streak in the upcoming campaign. The main threat to that run unfortunately comes from off the field, as the 32-year-old was indicted over the offseason regarding an incident that allegedly occurred after the Super Bowl in February 2017. Assuming he's in uniform, however, Bennett will get plenty of snaps as he continues to rotate inside on passing downs. He will still be a difference-maker in Philadelphia.
