27-Year-Old Wide ReceiverWR
Atlanta Falcons
2024 Fantasy Outlook
After spending two years in San Francisco, McCloud signed a two-year deal with Atlanta this offseason, joining Darnell Mooney, Rondale Moore and Casey Washington as additions to a revamped wideout corps behind Drake London. Quarterback Kirk Cousins also is new in town and expected to elevate the passing attack led by former Rams passing game coordinator Zac Robinson. McCloud has never been a prolific offensive player, totaling 26 catches (on 40 targets) for 378 yards and a score across two seasons with the 49ers, but he excels as a returner, which should help him land a roster spot on the Falcons. Getting first-team looks
WRAtlanta Falcons
June 25, 2024
McCloud got first-team reps this spring and caught some passes from QB Kirk Cousins for big plays, ESPN.com's Marc Raimondi reports.
ANALYSIS
McCloud mostly served as a return specialist and fourth/fifth WR while playing for four different teams the past six seasons, but he got five starts and 66 targets with the Steelers back in 2021, catching 39 passes for 277 yards en route to a league-low 4.2 yards per target. He may now get another chance at significant snaps on offense, having signed in March with an Atlanta team that has Drake London, Darnell Mooney and Rondale Moore projected as the top three wide receivers. London and Mooney are locked in as starters, and tight end Kyle Pitts will get a significant target share, but Moore was a disappointment in Arizona and could now face competition from McCloud for a No. 3 role that would figure to entail a lot of screen passes, jet sweeps, etc. rather than downfield targets. The Falcons also have KhaDarel Hodge and Casey Washington as options if they want to go with a more traditional WR and not a vertically challenged YAC specialist like the 5-foot-7 Moore or 5-foot-9 McCloud.

McCloud turned out to be a great signing for the 49ers last season, as the journeyman filled the team's need for a return specialist after experimenting with several options over the past couple of years. The fifth-year pro also proved to be a sneaky weapon for head coach Kyle Shanahan on offense, posting 18 touches for 321 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns in 17 games. Expect McCloud to continue handling all of San Francisco's return duties while serving as the team's fourth wideout in 2023.
McCloud saw his offensive production rise to new career-high marks of 39 receptions and 277 yards with the Steelers in 2021. The 25-year-old joins a 49ers wide receiver room to provide slot depth and ability as a returner. McCloud has a good shot to make the team come Week 1, but it would take a series of unlikely events for him to have much fantasy value.
McCloud appeared in every game for the Steelers in 2020, but he only recorded 142 yards from scrimmage and ranked fifth among the team's wide receivers in offensive snaps. As long as Pittsburgh's key pass catchers remain healthy, McCloud is unlikely to have a meaningful role in the team's offense.
As a rookie, McCloud, a sixth-rounder out of Clemson, caught five of just six targets for 36 yards over the course of 10 games in 2018. He also returned one kickoff for 18 yards and four punts for 20 yards. Given the Bills' wideout woes last season, the team signed John Brown and Cole Beasley in free agency, moves that don't favor McCloud's chances of moving up the depth chart. With Zay Jones and Robert Foster still in the mix, McCloud will need a break or two to go his way before he comes close to approaching fantasy relevance. UPDATE: McCloud was cut by the Bills on Aug. 31 and is currently a free agent.
McCloud, who was selected in the sixth round of the 2018 NFL Draft, is entering a crowded wideout corps that lacks explosive talents. His college stat line doesn't scream that he'll be that guy, however, with just four receiving touchdowns in three years. McCloud will serve as a depth asset if he makes the team.

May have bigger role than expected
WRAtlanta Falcons
June 24, 2024
McCloud saw reps with the Falcons' first-team offense this spring and showed some chemistry with Kirk Cousins, Marc Raimondi of ESPN reports.
ANALYSIS
The veteran was signed as a free agent in March, presumably to handle kick return duties for Atlanta, but the team lacks a clear No. 3 wide receiver behind Drake London and Darnell Mooney, and McCloud seems to be getting a real chance to win the job. McCloud's most productive season came in 2021, when he caught 39 passes for 277 yards over 16 games with the Steelers while also adding 1,143 return yards.
