Edwards is trying to return from a torn tricep muscle that cost him the entire 2011 season. He is expected to start at defensive tackle and the Panthers will rely on him to help stop the run.
Brought into Carolina to provide a lift for a stagnant defense, Edwards tore a triceps muscle during training camp and will miss the 2011 season.
He's big (6-3, 315) and durable (hasn't missed a game in the last four seasons), but his presence inside didn't prevent opposing offenses from racking up 157 rushing yards per game in 2009, which ranked next-to-last in the NFL. He also won't give you much in the way of stats (29 tackles, no sacks last season), so you can safely ignore him in IDP leagues.
Edwards didn’t start a game for the Chiefs in 2008, but he’ll be given the opportunity to battle with Tank Tyler to be the starting nose tackle in Kansas City’s new 3-4 defense. Very few nose tackles record enough statistics to be worth consideration in IDP leagues and Edwards is no exception.
Edwards will reprise his role as a run-stuffer in the middle of Kansas City’s defense and should be aided by the extra attention likely to be focused on his new cohort inside – rookie Glenn Dorsey. As with most defensive tackles, he doesn’t have much IDP appeal.
Edwards figures to start at defensive tackle, but will be part of an interior line rotation featuring up to six different players.
