The Bears had brought the No. 7 overall pick (by the Saints) in the 2008 draft in to boost their pass rush, but he elected not to report to training camp. Assuming he stays retired, Ellis will finish his five-year career with a total of 12.5 sacks and 173 tackles, including 36 last season.

Ellis, the former seventh overall pick by the Saints in 2008, saw his production fall by the wayside the last two seasons but did have a six-sack season in 2010. He signed with the Bears in June with the expectation that he'd provide some pass rush on the interior off the bench, but he ultimately elected to retire in July.
Ellis actually led the Saints with six sacks last season and came on strong in his third year as a pro. Ellis should further benefit with opponents unable to focus their attention on him as the Saints added DTs Shaun Rogers and Aubrayo Franklin via free agency and DE Cameron Jordan in the first round of the NFL Draft. Expect a very nice year from Ellis out of the defensive tackle position.
After an injury-plagued campaign, Ellis is set to start at defensive tackle in 2010.
Ellis enters his sophomore season bursting with potential. Last year, he recorded 30 tackles and four sacks, flushing the opposing quarterback out of the pocket on many occasions. Possessing a rare combination of power and speed, expect those numbers to improve this year.
The seventh overall pick will see significant playing time in 2008 and could outproduce the more highly touted Glenn Dorsey.
