Signed a contract with the Chargers in December of 2017. Waived by the Chargers in December of 2017.
Waived by Chargers
KLos Angeles Chargers
December 18, 2017
Coons was waived by the Chargers on Monday.
ANALYSIS
Coons made seven of eight field-goal attempts and five of six extra-point tries, but the Chargers believe they have a better option in the form of Nick Rose, who converted 10 of 11 field goals while filling in for an injured Dustin Hopkins with the Redskins the past couple months. Rose will be a playable fantasy option in a favorable Week 16 matchup with the Jets.

Past Fantasy Outlooks
2016
2015
2014
Coons hit a record 18 consecutive field goals to begin his NFL career, and his 106 points accounted for 38.1 percent of the Browns total points last year, the fourth-highest mark in the league. Unfortunately, it was the 12th-fewest kicker points overall, as no amount of consecutive kicks or high accuracy could make up for a lack of volume. Most of Coons’ success came from closer distances, as he went only 7-of-11 from at least 40 yards (and perfect from inside that distance), and with the Browns likely to struggle to move the ball in 2016, there’s little reason to believe that Coons will make some kind of leap this year.
Coons will compete with Carey Spear to fill the vacancy left by Billy Cundiff, who was let go with an injury settlement. Coons appeared to win the starting job in Tennessee last season before Ryan Succop took the role late in the preseason. Spear, meanwhile, was cut by the Eagles in training camp last year. The Browns’ offense struggled significantly last season, and while Cleveland added quarterback Josh McCown and wideouts Dwayne Bowe and Brian Hartline in free agency, it's still not likely to put up big points. If the Browns struggle to move the ball, their kicker could get a decent number of field-goal opportunities, but he's unlikely to score enough points to be interesting in fantasy leagues.
Coons edged out Maikon Bonani for a roster spot after final roster cut-downs, but he was soon replaced on the Titans' roster by Ryan Succop.
