Nixon announced his retirement from the NFL on Monday, Kayla Gregoire of NESN.com reports.
ANALYSIS
Nixon, a 2021 seventh-round pick of the Patriots, did not suit up for any regular-season games during his time with the team. The former Central Florida standout spent much of his time in New England on the practice squad, and he will now move on to endeavors off the NFL field.

Nixon joined the Patriots as a seventh-rounder in the 2021 NFL Draft. The UCF product spent each of the past two seasons on the team's practice squad, and this year he'll look to secure a depth spot in wideout corps that currently features JuJu Smith-Schuster, Tyquan Thornton, DeVante Parker and Kendrick Bourne.
Nixon, who the Patriots took in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft, remains behind DeVante Parker, Kendrick Bourne, Jakobi Meyers and Nelson Agholor in the team's wideout pecking order, plus rookie second-rounder Tyquan Thornton seems destined to secure a roster spot ahead of Week 1. Nixon is thus among several players who will vie for depth slotting as the summer rolls along, and even if the 6-foot, 187-pounder does stick, there's not a clear path to steady targets for the 24-year-old UCF product.
The Patriots took Nixon in the seventh round of the 2021 NFL Draft, 242nd overall. The Central Florida product is a crafty route runner with good hands and could end up be a steal relative to his draft slot. As things stand, however, the 6-0, 187-pounder will have to battle for a roster spot and could land on the team's practice squad if he doesn't make New England's initial 53-man roster.

Nixon recorded four catches for 81 yards during New England's first preseason game against the Giants on Thursday, reinforcing the positive impression he's made during the first few weeks of training camp. The 2021 seventh-round pick spent his rookie season on the Patriots' practice squad, but he could make a push for a spot in the team's relatively thin group of wide receivers heading into the 2022 regular season.
