Even with James Conner sidelined by an injury for part of last season, Edmunds took just one offensive snap for the Steelers and didn't record any touches. The 26-year-old gained increased competition for a depth role on the 53-man roster after the Steelers drafted Najee Harris and signed Kalen Ballage during the offseason.

The addition of fourth-round draft pick Benny Snell to the Pittsburgh backfield resulted in the release of Edmunds, only to have him return as a member of the practice squad.

An undrafted rookie out of Maryland in 2017, Edmunds earned a spot on the Saints' final 53-man roster out of training camp and appeared in all 16 games, primarily as a special-teams contributor. He finished the season with nine carries for 48 yards and a touchdown, all of which came during garbage time in a Week 10 blowout win over the Bills. While he faces a crowded depth chart, Edmunds could play a role in the Saints offense this season, as he's expected to compete with fellow backs Jonathan Williams and Boston Scott to fill in as Alvin Kamara's backup while Mark Ingram serves a four-game suspension to start the season.
